About Katie Bering
Katie is a successful development professional with nearly 15 years’ experience. In her roles as a member of a staff team, volunteer, board member and consultant she has worked to maximize non-profit revenues through development of individual donors and through corporate and foundation grants. Katie has also successfully worked in the for-profit sphere working to consistently champion the company’s mission, vision, brand and core values in all internal and external communications through a time of radical transition. Katie believes strongly that relationships form the heart of all successful non-profit fundraising but they must be accompanied by strong systems and excellent communication.
Katie’s writing skills have led to many of her most significant successes. These range from securing over $2 million in private foundation funding, to testimony regarding a bill before the state legislature, to web and blog content that drove her company into new markets. Katie’s skills reach beyond just putting words on a page. She has strong listening and analytical skills that allow her to capture and express the ideas of others. She also has a strong drive for excellence and accuracy that avoids typos but also helps teams dream and do bigger and better things.
With her background as a Development Director, Katie also understands the many aspects of a thriving development program. She has extensive experience in growing a healthy development team, major event planning, the interaction between the board and development staff and using effective planning and metrics.
Katie is passionate about using her skills to serve her the community. She currently volunteers her time as a board member for the Rescue Mission in Tacoma, as the blog editor for Discovery Community Church and as a discussion leader for Bible Study Fellowship.
